Your Marble and Granite Questions – Answered

Not necessarily. Countless families and business owners spend an unnecessary fortune redoing their entire marble or granite surfaces, when they could have simply restored them instead. When properly maintained, natural stone and grout can last for decades. Contact our natural stone specialists to assess your surfaces and confirm whether restoration is doable.
This depends on a few things. Both marble and granite are natural stone options that are just as beautiful as they are durable, but there are differences. While marble carries a veined appearance, granite is more granular or “flecked”. Granite falls in the siliceous stone category, which is slightly more durable and easier to clean. Marble on the other hand is a calcareous natural stone, which is more sensitive to acidic products and requires more cleaning. Our natural stone specialists can help you make the right decision for your home or office.

Maintenance is the key to making your investment last longer. You can check out our care and maintenance page for tips on how to clean and maintain natural stone, but you’re also welcome to contact us anytime with any questions you have.

Think of a sealer as a defense shield for natural stone surfaces, creating an invisible barrier between your marble or granite and the world beyond it. Sealer is particularly important to use on surfaces with more veins and swirls, which are more porous and can absorb more acidic food and drink items. Sealed natural stone is easier to clean, care for, and maintain, while creating a healthier and safer environment for your family and guests. We recommend sealing your natural stone surfaces annually. When using a sealant, always test it first by applying one drop of water to a small section of the stone. Leave for 15 minutes, covered with a glass to prevent evaporation. If the stone doesn’t darken, then it’s likely sealed against stains of a water-based nature.
